about

Brazilian label Not For Us has really hit its stride of late, with originals and remixes by Alejandro Fernandez, Andrea Colina and label boss, Rods Novaes, marking them out as ones to watch in 2013. Their latest release arrives courtesy of a 4-track remix compilation, with one of the label's most emphatic moments to date, Dee Bufato's 'Avenue du Parc', proving the basis for four very different – but equally beguiling – interpretations.

First up on the diverse EP is Dubshape's re-imagining of the track. The Brazilian pairing of Ale Reis and João Lee have been keeping a relatively quiet agenda of late, but theirs is a remix – expectedly – that's very much worth the wait. Draped in melodic flourishes and numerous hidden intricacies aplenty, it maintains an intelligent and sophisticated sound that's sure to appeal to in-the-know tastemakers aplenty.

The label's international agenda is then ramped up a significant notch thanks to the presence of Leone Music's Blagoj Rambabov, with the Macedonian native turning in an effort that's crafted on a vehemently more 'up-front' tip. The time, it's a soundsphere full of menacing overtones and unpredictable mannerisms that's the order of the day, with Rambabov's penchant for dancefloor grooves expertly adhered to.

The third of the four remixes arrives thanks to another dab hand, Brazilian Ney Faustini, a man well-known around Sao Paulo for his many deep house inclinations. His remix makes smart use of a warm, bulbous synthline, with the latter quite brilliantly matched with a rugged kick and a series of sporadic industrial flourishes. Renee Mussi's remix is the last of the litter, as it closes the curtain on the EP under a kaleidoscope of mushrooming synths and cosmic tinges. It might have been crafted in Brazil, but much like Faustini's effort, Mussi's remix owes a debt of gratitude to contemporary NYC aesthetics, while also acting as a potent reminder of the EP's wonderfully eccentric amalgamation of sounds. Make no mistake about it: Not For Us's latest is stunning, timeless-sounding fare that's very much tailor-made with the discerning listener in mind.
